Montour County Advocates For Children, the local Community Early Care and Education Planning Team was formed in October 2002.  The team, comprised of Montour County child care providers, CCIS representatives, early child educators, public school administrators, social service agencies, business leaders, and local government officials, came together to study the local early care and education delivery system and to plan improvements for these services.    Data collected from parents, employers, employees, and child care providers, determined the direction for the formation of a comprehensive plan created by the team to address the needs of the many stakeholders concerned with quality early care and education.

Mission:  To build through community collaboration the supports needed to obtain and provide quality early care and education for all children in Montour County.

Plan Priority Areas:  Seven priority areas were identified to promote and enhance the early care and education system available to children and families in Montour County.  As all priorities are deemed important, the following are not listed in any ranked order. 

1.      Continue to improve the quality of child care in Montour County

2.      Develop strategies to increase school readiness

3.      Increase the community awareness of the importance of quality early care and education

4.      Increase resources available to parents related to child development and early childhood education 

5.      Increase the availability of child care for children with special needs

6.      Develop strategies to improve children’s health and safety

7.      Foster business awareness of child care issues including impact on current and future workforce development
